1. The hardness is higher than the hardness of the material being processed;
2. It has certain toughness, strength and ability to handle sharp edges.
3. It should have certain mechanical strength.
4. Abrasives maintain inherent hardness and strength at high temperatures (i.e. red hardness or thermal stability).
