The surface protection of decorative stone has become an indispensable part of stone processing. The result of its treatment is related to the rendering effect of decorative stone in installation and later use.

Although the stone surface protection process seems simple, due to the staff's inattentive and coping mentality during the protection, and the insufficient supervision of the factory's quality supervision department, the treated stone has not been properly protected. During the on-site installation and later use, the surface of the stone has no protective effect, and liquid stains still penetrate into the stone, causing the stone to be stained and even yellowed.

When communicating with factory employees: "Why the protected stone has no protective effect", they couldn't tell why it came to it, and they didn't know which part of the problem went wrong. This phenomenon has caused such problems to occur continuously, and it is difficult to get a radical cure.

Why does the protected stone have no protective effect or the effect is not ideal? Where is the source of the problem? This article analyzes the reason and reason from two aspects of protective technology and protective agent category.
1. Brush method Brush method uses a brush dipped in a protective agent to brush on the stone surface for protection. This method is divided into horizontal brushing method and vertical brushing method according to whether the stone is placed horizontally or vertically.
Advantages and disadvantages of the brushing method: The brushing method is very suitable for specification boards and special-shaped products, especially the protection of the sides of the specification boards.
Disadvantages: Due to the narrow brush characteristics, it is easy to cause uneven brushing on the surface of the stone; when the amount of brushing protection is large, the operator is negligent, which will cause the phenomenon of partial brushing on the stone surface or insufficient brushing amount of the protective agent.
2. Roller coating method Roller coating method uses a roller coating tool dipped in a protective agent to protect the stone surface by roller coating.
Advantages and disadvantages of the roller coating method: The roller coating method can make up for the shortcomings of the brush method. The roller dipped in the protective agent has a large contact area with the stone surface, and the protective agent is evenly covered on the stone surface during the rolling process of the roller.
Disadvantages: The roller coating method is only suitable for the protection of the specification board. Due to the large size of the roller, it is not suitable for the protection of the side of the specification board. Not suitable for lines, reliefs, and side protection.
The brushing method and the roller coating method are simple and convenient, and the requirements of the site are arbitrary. These two protection techniques require the stone to be laid flat on a relatively flat ground and the surface of the stone to be dried. The inclined plane will cause the protective agent that has just been brushed to flow to a low place, causing the absorption of the protective agent at a high place to be unsaturated, which will affect the final protective effect. When the protective agent is applied by standing brush, the protective agent that has just been brushed will flow down the surface of the stone, and the protective agent on the upper part will flow away before it penetrates into the stone. The protective effect is definitely not good. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to apply the protective agent in the factory by laying it flat.
3. Spraying method The spraying method uses a spray can or sprayer to install a protective agent and spray the protective agent on the surface of the stone with the help of external force.
Advantages and disadvantages of the spray method: The spray method is a protection technique used by most stone enterprise employees. Because the spray method has high efficiency and low labor intensity, there is no need to bend during construction, and the amount of protection work per unit time is higher than the above two methods.
Disadvantages: This process also has many disadvantages: such as uneven spraying, leaking spray, large consumption of protective agent, and protective agent in a released state during the spraying process, which will be blown away by the wind. At the same time, this process is extremely environmentally friendly, and it is easy to cause pollution to the construction environment, and the protective agent in the air is inhaled into the human body or sticks to the skin, which may cause allergic reactions or poisoning of the construction workers. If the stone is erected in the spray method, its protective effect will be more difficult to guarantee.
4. Soaking method The soaking method is to soak the stone into a container or pool of a certain volume containing the protective agent, and the stone is soaked in the protective agent as a whole.
Advantages and disadvantages of the immersion method: The best process for stone protection is the immersion method. Completely soak the stone in the protective agent and leave it for a few to ten minutes. The stone protective agent can completely penetrate into the stone to form an effective protective layer to prevent water or other pollutants from penetrating into the stone.
Disadvantages: Although the immersion method is the best method for stone protection, its operation is cumbersome.
The cumbersome operation of the immersion method: First, a large container or pool is required to contain the protective agent; secondly, the stone pieces are put into the protective agent, and then taken out after the stone is taken out, and then placed on the ground to dry. If the product specifications are small, it is relatively easy to do, but when the product specifications are large and the quantity is large, it will be more difficult to do. In addition, the delivery time of stone products is tight, and it is not allowed to do so in time. Therefore, the application of soaking method in the stone industry is very rare, and the conditions are not met, and the employees are highly resisted.
Each of the above four protection processes has advantages and disadvantages. The decorative stone that has been brushed with the protective agent also has the problem of ineffective protection in the later stage. In addition to the unreasonable protective technology mentioned above, the quality of the protective agent is also poor. The selected protective agent is not suitable for the corresponding stone, and the surface of the stone is not fully dried. The treated stone is packaged and installed without enough time to keep in good health.
