Diamond segments come in various shapes, each with distinct cutting efficiencies. They are designed for different cutting scenarios and types of stone. In fact, the shape of the segment greatly influences its performance, and a well-designed segment can significantly improve cutting results. Therefore, it is essential for users to choose the right segment shape for their specific needs.
Cube or Rectangular Segments
These segments are commonly used for gang saw blades and large marble saw blades. Gang saw segments are used on parallel saw blades. Since gang saw blades are straight and operate with a push-pull cutting motion, a cube or rectangular diamond segment can fully utilize the cutting surface, maximizing efficiency and minimizing material wastage. Large marble saw blades also often use rectangular segments, primarily because marble is a softer material that doesn’t require highly specialized cutting edges. This type of segment is sufficient for marble cutting.
R-Shape Segments
Also known as fan-shaped segments, these segments feature a small segment of a fan-shaped block. Larger R-shaped segments are often used on block saws, which makes it easier to cut curved stone slabs. R-shaped segments are common for medium-diameter saw blades, and almost all medium-diameter marble saw blades, as well as many granite saw blades, use this shape. The R-shaped segment has very few drawbacks, so unless there are specific cutting needs, it is often considered the best choice for general-purpose cutting saw blades.
M-Shape Segments
These segments have the advantage of a sawtooth-like protrusion, which improves cutting performance. Since the gaps between the segments are relatively small, the sharpness of the cutter is much higher, making it more efficient for cutting hard stones. However, the trade-off is that their lifespan may be shorter.
K-Shape Segments
K-shaped segments are typically used in mining operations. During mining, the sharpness requirements are not as high, as the goal is to ensure cutting efficiency over a longer period. K-shaped segments are designed to balance cutting efficiency and lifespan, providing optimal performance for mining saw blades.

T-Shape Segments
These segments are commonly used on gang saw blades and medium-diameter saw blades, where the goal is to increase sharpness without compromising the segment's lifespan. However, since these segments require higher impact resistance and wear resistance, they tend to be more expensive.
W-Shape Segments
W-shaped segments are mainly used on serrated saw blades. These saw blades demand higher sharpness and continuity, making them suitable for cutting materials like microcrystalline stone and artificial granite.
There are also V-shaped and U-shaped segments, among others, which are designed to enhance sharpness. These are not detailed here but follow similar principles to those mentioned above.
